(By Gabriel Caceres) Founded by three brothers, Avedian is a startup that since 2017 has been providing technological solutions to healthcare institutions for decision-making.
Guillermo, Pablo and Facundo Tabares are the three musketeers behind Avedian. Three brothers from Córdoba who are a clear example of the phrase “Persevere and you will succeed”. They did so well that today Avedian is one of the three healthtech companies worldwide using the DRG (Diagnosis-Related Groups) algorithm for global data management.

The beginnings
Avedian was born as an idea in 2006, at a time when paper was still the norm, but these brothers already saw where technology and data were heading. They based their approach on the DRG algorithm, created over 40 years ago, which basically “takes” data from health institutions and packages it into information clusters.
In a concrete example, it would be something like this: it groups similar data, for instance (and only for illustrative purposes) it could take data from pregnant women in a particular institution. With the DRG algorithm, that package of information would allow knowing various data: number of days they remain hospitalized, main risks that may arise, ages, and many others that would be of great utility for the clinic, health insurance providers, and all actors involved in healthcare decision-making.
The truth is that the brothers went through 11 years of trial and error until 2017 when Avedian entered the market looking to attract clients, which didn’t take long to arrive.
The differentiator? The years the firm spent doing alchemy with the algorithm, seeking to adapt it as best as possible to the multiple data systems that existed at the time in all health institutions, aiming not only to optimize information but to create a platform that standardizes their order.
While DRG is the heart of the business, Avedian also provides a health payment system and a shared risk program that facilitates management between the hospital/insurer/healthcare provider and pharmaceutical companies, in addition to certifying ISO 9001 and 27001 standards.
More than information, better results.
The success story of Apross
These 15 years have earned Avedian not only the perfection of its platform but also becoming the first health startup to apply the DRG algorithm in just 6 months. Where? In the very Apross of Córdoba, managing to digitize and optimize all the institution’s data in record time worldwide, being awarded by Amazon Web Services for their innovation based on the use of its platform.
Today, Avedian has more than 100 clients in the 5 countries where it operates (Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay), they are on the verge of signing with IOMA (the largest health insurance provider in Buenos Aires) and they see with good eyes the landing in the Dominican Republic and strengthening from Córdoba to the whole world, always with the patient at the center.
